Who built this
I'm Bruce Peters, a high school student in the Bay Area, and I built Word Wiz AI on my own. Most reading apps tell a kid that a word was wrong. I wanted something that could hear which sound inside the word was off, the way a tutor sitting next to them would. Word Wiz placed 2nd in the Congressional App Challenge for California's 15th district.
I'm also doing research on AI in education at Boston University (one of my projects looks at noticing when a student has drifted off task while reading). The goal is the same as Word Wiz, which is making tools like this actually work for the people who matter, kids learning to read and the parents and teachers helping them.
